California Poker Tournament

Introduction

If you’re a poker player and you fancy a poker playing break in the fall then California must surely be the place to head for. With the California State Poker Championship having been moved from its regular slot in the fall to earlier this year in May, it looked as if there’d be a gap in the usual California Poker Tournament calendar. However, the Commerce Casino has just announced that they’ll be holding a Hold ‘em Series from 10th to the 25th September. So, if you fancy missing those early frosts up in the North and playing a poker tournament, book your ticket for Los Angeles.

The Hold ‘em series

16 days of play means 16 separate poker tournaments that you can buy into. Buy-ins will start at just $220 rising to an almost eye watering $2500 for the Championship Main Event. However, of course, if you make it through to the Main Event then you’ll almost certainly have won enough to more than be able to justify sitting at those tables. Winning prizes will range form $50,000 to $500,000. However, not all games will have prize money on offer as they will be qualifiers for the closing Main Event. Don’t worry if you’re not too experienced as if you’re knocked out in one of the early rounds you’ll have the opportunity to buy back in at least twice. There’ll also be some ‘Heads Up’ games with double eliminations, again giving you two bites at the cherry.

Poker with a twist

Being California and the land of the ever bronzed and toned bodies the idea of ’survival of the fittest’ extends to the poker room, too. So, Commerce Casino is adding a bit of spice to the play on the 23rd with an ‘Iron Man Challenge’. With no scheduled breaks this game is sure to push any player to the limit of their poker playing stamina and nerve. You’ll be allowed to leave the table for a comfort break – but whilst you’re gone the action will continue with your stack in play and in jeopardy of being blinded off.
